Reasons for Dishwasher Overflow:
Any appliance needs to be inspected on a regular basis to check whether all the parts are functioning properly. Otherwise, without maintenance, it may leak or overflow. Usually, a dishwasher overflows for three reasons. They are:
- Excessive soap suds: If the overflown water has an excessive amount of suds, it proves the overflow occurred either because of the overuse of dishwashing detergent or the usage of poor quality detergent. Both create an abundance of soapy suds, leading the water to overflow through the dishwasher door.
- Clogged or blocked the bottom of the dishwasher: Food particles may fill the bottom of the dishwasher while cleaning the dishes. These particles can block or clog up the area where water is drained. So, when water fails to be drained out of the dishwasher it overflows by leaking through the door.
- Worn out door gasket: A the gasket is the rubber seal your dishwasher has around its door. Gasket seals the water inside when the door is closed. Therefore if the gasket is slit, ripped, brittle, or worn out, water leaks through the door and overflows on the floor.
- Malfunction of the water inlet valve: water is delivered to the appliance by an inlet valve in every dishwasher. It provides your dishwasher with the amount of water it needs and then shutoff. So, when you see water in the dishwasher even though you’re not using it. Check the water inlet valve. If not replaced in time it will cause your dishwasher to overflow when you’ll use it next time.
- Flawed float assembly or switch: as the water level in your dishwasher increases the float assembly of your dishwasher moves upwards. When the float rises to a certain level it signals the float switch to turn off the flow of water. If the float assembly is stuck and unable to rise up the float switch won’t get any signal to activate. As a consequence, your dishwasher will overflow. The switch might also be faulty and cause the same damage.
